‘I Want Others to Have the Same Opportunity I Had at Moffitt.’

Deborah and James LlewellynFear gave way to hope. Hope fueled her fight. Now, she fights for others. Deborah Llewellyn’s story is a powerful reminder that, together, we contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.

In 2002, Deborah’s life was upended by a Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis. “I was in my early 30s at the time,” Deborah recalls. “It turned my whole world upside down.”

As she began the process of seeking treatment, there was an understandable amount of fear. But Deborah says something changed when she found Moffitt Cancer Center. “It was a night-and-day experience from other places,” Deborah shares. “I felt like they gave me hope.”

“There were no guarantees. They just understood my fear and concern. I had a good team and the best chance for a cure—my entire experience told me this is where I want to fight.”

Years later, Deborah gives this report: “I have been cancer-free for 23 years—Moffitt saved my life.”

She and her husband, James, now fight for others at Moffitt. They volunteer, interact with patients and their families, and make regular contributions.

Recently, Deborah and James made the extraordinary choice to include Moffitt in their wills. Deborah says, “I learned generosity from my mother. She taught me to always give your time, money or talents to help others. So that’s what I’m doing. I want others to have the same opportunity I had at Moffitt.”

Hope. A good team. The best chance for a cure. As Moffitt Legacy Society members, Deborah and James’ planned gift ensures others will experience that same opportunity for years to come.
